The holidays are one of my favorite times of the year. Everyone is in a joyous, celebratory mood as Christmas, Hanukkah, The New Year and anything else you celebrate comes into fruition following finals week.

With the holidays comes lots of parties and celebrations and with parties comes LOTS of food. There are so many holiday treat temptations that it is easy to get overwhelmed. Especially if you’re on the full meal plan at Saint Mike’s, all you want to do is shove anything yummy and homemade into your mouth as quickly as you can.

I know for me, personally, the holidays are difficult because of all the food that comes with them. I try to be as good as I can most of the time, but with all the holidays to celebrate and parties to attend, it can be easy to get down on yourself and struggle with your body image.

The best piece of advice I can give to anyone feeling this way is that the holidays are a time to spend with the ones you love. It’s okay to have that piece of cake or your mom’s special mashed potatoes. This season comes once a year. Enjoy it while it lasts and take the time afterwards to do things that make you feel good about yourself and your body. For example, I like to walk my dogs with my mom or go for a run on the beach when I’m home.

Life is about balance and know you are not alone if you are feeling this way during the upcoming holiday season.
