This semester might be the busiest I have ever been. I am taking 18 credits, working two jobs at 30 hours a week in total and am a part of four extracurriculars. I always thought that I need to have a busy schedule so I do not become bored, but this semester might have been too much. Though I enjoy everything I do, I do not have time to do the things I love.
I used to be really into reading, scrapbooking, creating art and so many other hobbies. In my free time now, I just scroll on my phone. It is hard to not scroll on my phone during my free time because I am too busy to go on it at other times. Realizing this habit made me also realize that I am bored with my life. I have virtually the same schedule every week. This is something that many people can relate to, so I want to share how I am working towards getting myself back, just in case you want to work on that too.
I have not really gotten back into scrapbooking yet. Instead, I have slowly started to collect things to put in my scratchbook. It brings me joy to find little pieces of paper or trinkets that I could potentially put in my scrapbook later. Anything from tickets I had for an event to random sticky notes I used, I save all of those for my future scrapbooking return. Even though I have not started to scrapbook again, collecting pieces that I can eventually add in later brings me joy and motivation to start working towards starting again.
For creating art, I have started to doodle more on my papers and notes. Even though they are not full blown pieces like I have made before, it still is a little something to start off with. Sometimes, I make doodles of what I am learning about in class. Not only do I get to be a little creative, but I can incorporate what I am learning into the doodles too. Though sometimes I get distracted and make doodles totally unrelated to what we are doing in class, it is still something fun to do that helps fire up my love for my hobbies again.
Something else that has encouraged me to try to get back into my hobbies is my friends. Seeing them do stuff that they love also makes me want to start doing what I love more. Also getting to do those activities they like with them is fun too, and makes me remember how good doing your hobbies makes you feel. Having friends that inspire is incredibly important to me, as they help guide me to become someone better.
Though times can be stressful and consuming, it is always important to make sure you do stuff that you enjoy. Doing these little things and seeing my friends enjoy their own hobbies has inspired me to work towards doing those hobbies again.
