Staying in my hometown for college and attending Saint Louis University was certainly not what I expected or planned to do after high school. In fact, SLU was not even the first university I attended. It was the school I transferred to after my first semester of freshman year.Â
Now, four years later, while not what I originally pictured for my college life, I could not be more grateful that I ended up at SLU. The community, knowledge and opportunities that I gained have been valuable beyond belief.Â
In and out of the classroom, there was so much to participate in at SLU. This was not something I did in high school. From my sorority, to clubs, to both on and off-campus jobs, each opportunity brought insight and value. I do not think another school could have brought me out of my shell like SLU did. The experiences that I gained from all that I was involved in resulted in memories I will take with me forever.Â
From mentors to peers, SLU has introduced me to those I am closest to today. Both younger and older friends from my sorority, other organizations and classes will be by my side for the rest of my life. I am continually supported by professors and managers from my time at SLU. Without all of these people, I would not be where I am today. Because I stayed close to home, I also had the chance to grow closer to my family.Â
SLU has been a part of my life since I was born. Attending school basketball games and events was a constant. Getting to continue these traditions with my family throughout my four years at SLU has been both meaningful and nostalgic. My high school graduation was actually held on SLU’s campus at Chaifetz Arena. Walking across the same stage four years later will be an extremely full-circle moment. That building holds so many of my fondest memories. Some of my favorite concerts, games and milestones have all been there. Graduating from SLU is meant to be.Â
While I have moved every year during my time at SLU, the campus has always felt like a home away from home. From seeing the buildings covered in snow or West Pine in full “SLUlip” bloom, the campus’s beauty is unmatched. This is something one might not expect, but the vibes of lying in a hammock, sitting by a fountain or at the koi pond are peaceful as can be.Â
Like many seniors, I have mixed emotions about graduating. It is exciting, but also a bit sad. The sadness comes from not wanting to leave behind an era of my life that has been so great and eye-opening. But the excitement comes with what is next. SLU has certainly prepared me for whatever that may be.Â
So, from one of SLU’s biggest fans, I want to say thank you. Thank you, SLU, for the memories, the people, the growth, the fun, the classes and more.Â
I cannot wait to be an official alumna and a forever “daughter of Saint Louis University.”
