5 Brown Girl Friendly Makeup and Skincare Brands You Need to Try

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SLU chapter.

In the current age of TikTok and Instagram influencers, it can be difficult to keep up with truckloads of brands releasing new makeup and skincare products. While these products provide innovative solutions to make your skin and makeup look flawless, as someone with a darker skin toneI often feel disappointed at how a large majority of these brands offer barely any products for my skin tone, much less for someone with a darker skin tone. However, there are a few makeup and skincare brands that are inclusive to any skin tone and can tackle any skin problems that people with darker skin tones deal with. Here are my five favorite brown girl friendly makeup and skincare brands:

  1. Fenty Beauty

We all know Rihanna never misses and this stands true for her makeup line. This brand has all different types of shades and makes it possible to shop for anyone. The lip products are also amazing and can create the best brown girl lip combos. There are so many different shades that are pigmented so there is no worry about whether they will show up on your lips.

  1. Rare Beauty

Very much like Rihanna, Selena Gomez did amaze me with this makeup line. Its very similar to Fenty Beauty as far as what it offers and its shade ranges and lip products. The only difference for me is if you have drier skin I would go with Rare Beauty as it is an oilier product. I am obsessed with every single blush product offered from Rare Beauty. These blushes are super pigmented so no matter how dark your skin tone is, this blush will show.

  1. Naturium

Naturium is a brand I’ve recently started using and its one of my favorites. My first product that I love is Phyto-Glow Lip Balm. This is a hydrating balm that is also pigmented so it adds just a small tint to your lips. I also love the Niacinamide Cleansing Gelee 3%. This is one of the only products I’ve used that actually helps with hyperpigmentation, which many people with darker skin tones deal with.

  1. e.l.f. Cosmetics

My favorite thing about e.l.f. Cosmetics is just how affordable it is for its quality. I love any eyeshadow product from e.l.f. because of how well it shows up on darker skin. I also love how different the colors that they offer in their eyeshadow products are.

  1. Paula’s Choice

This is generally a good skincare line but the main product I use is the Youth-Extending Daily Hydrating Fluid SPF 50. I love this product because of how lightweight it feels on my skin and how hydrating it is after only using a small amount. This product also has no white cast and completely melts into your skin while most sunscreens either add a white cast or make my skin tone look weird.

While these five brands are great and are inclusive to all skin tones and skin types, there is a lot more work that needs to be done in the beauty industry. It is important for all brands to be just as accessible to everyone as these five are because no one should have to struggle to simply find a foundation shade that works for their skin tone.
