1. London Grammar

London Grammar is a trio from the UK that I discovered four years ago through BBC Radio’s YouTube channel. What initially hooked me (and everyone else I showed them to) was the incredible range that the lead singer Hannah Reid demonstrated on their cover of Wrecking Ball. After some research, I discovered their music is more on the mellow side, so if you enjoy that then this is the perfect band for you. Their songs are great to listen to while studying or for rainy days inside. The subtle details they put into their songs are the result of many years of hard work they dedicate to creating the perfectly crafted song, so while it may take them awhile to release new music, it’s definitely worth the wait.

Songs to listen to: Rooting for You, Everyone Else, Hey Now & Flickers

2. LANY

Another band that is on the rise that you should watch out for is LANY, a trio that creates music that is described as “dream pop.” The songs are brought to life by the amazing lead singer, Paul Jason Klein’s, smooth voice, which is overlaid with synthetic beats that will immediately draw you in. If your mood is feeling nostalgic for summer, then this is definitely the band for you. Oh, did I mention that I’m in love with the lead singer, Paul? Check out his Instagram (@pauljasonklein), you won’t regret it.

3. Cub Sport

Cub Sport is an Australian band that is gaining more attention after the release of their second studio album “BATS” last fall. If you enjoy alternative pop, then this is definitely the band for you. Their music is a stunning mix of unique beats, passionate vocals, and deeply personal lyrics that blend together to create songs like you’ve never heard before. Plus, they’re major advocates for LGBTQ+ rights, so that’s an added bonus and another reason why we should support them!

Songs to listen to: Vice, O Lord, I Can’t Save You & Come on Mess Me Up

4. Hippo Campus

Hippo Campus is probably one of my favorite bands of all time and I’ll tell you why. Their tunes consist of catchy lyrics and upbeat guitar riffs that can make you want to dance, and instantly lift your spirits. The lead singer, Jake Luppen, has a truly powerful voice (it sounds even better live) that molds perfectly with the instrumental background. They have songs for when you’re in your feels, and for when you feel on top of the world so their music is definitely very versatile. Though their lyrics can be a bit unique and maybe hard to understand at first, they’re a band you don’t want to miss.

Songs to listen to: Simple Season, Opportunistic, Buttercup & Close to Gold

5. HAIM

Haim has been one of my favorites for some time now. They’re composed of three sisters: Este, Alana, and Danielle Haim, and they released their first EP back in 2012. Through Danielle’s rich vocals and their powerful lyrics, their music is a good mix between alternative and rock. After a four year hiatus, they released their second studio album titled “Something to Tell You” last summer, and it was just as good as their first album. The album is an energetic blend of modern alternative and 80s pop that will take you to another world. A lot of their songs are high-key relatable, so there’s something for just about everyone on their albums. Not to mention, all three of them can shred their guitars like crazy, so they’re seriously the real deal here.

Songs to listen to: If I could Change Your Mind, Don’t Save Me, Walking Away & Ready For You.
