This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Skidmore chapter.

The start of fall brings certain things to mind—like beautiful foliage, delicious hot apple cider, and the pressure to think of a Halloween costume ASAP. But what gets us most excited about the start of a new season is what it means for our closets. That’s right! It’s time to transition your wardrobe from summer to fall, and we’ll help you do just that with our current favorite five fashion trends.

Emerald green

Not only has emerald green been dubbed the color of the year, but celebs are also rocking it left and right. From Selena Gomez to Beyoncé, this trend has been sweeping the red carpet. Emerald is a bold yet feminine color that will translate easily into your fall wardrobe as well. From accessories to dresses and pants—you name it, and you’ll find it in emerald.

Ankle booties

A classic ankle bootie is a fall wardrobe staple. You can buy it this season, but easily rock it through the winter and into spring. Pair it with denim like Miranda Kerr or opt for a flirty dress and a cute pair of knee socks to complete your look.

Cute & classy blazer

You can never go wrong with a classic blazer; it’s a fall-must-have. You can dress it up or down, go to work, or even wear it to a GNO (Girls’ Night Out). You can snag one for $27.80 at Forever21, or maybe splurge at a department store like Bloomingdales.

Printed pants

A playful, colorful, and fabulous trend, eye-catching printed pants are all over campus. Floral, plaid, and even brocade prints can be seen in stores like Free People (including the above pair for $78), Urban Outfitters, and H&M. But to keep this trend from becoming too overpowering, be sure to keep the top half of your outfit simple. Choose a solid T-shirt or sweater to let your pants do the talking.

Leather & Lace

If black leather feels a bit too Girl with the Dragon Tattoo for you, try pairing it with a hint of lace! Straight from the runway, leather and lace is an edgy yet elegant combination for a night out.
