Tips for Avoiding the Skidmore Plague

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Skidmore chapter.

We all know that time of year: plague season. It’s easy to identify when you hear coughs and sniffles throughout the library, see those few empty seats in each class, and listen to friends across campus complain about being sick. Here are a few tips to stay healthy and happy:

Hydrate:

In the wise words of DJ Khaled, hydration really is key. Drinking water and tea will help your immune system stay strong. Tea, aside from being the perfect fall drink, is full of antioxidants, which are great for your body and your mind!

Sleep:

Every college kid is told sleep is the answer to all their problems. Of course we’re all busy, so be realistic about it, but definitely try to get an extra hour here are there–even if its a nap between classes! Giving your body the rest it needs will help you keep the plague at bay.

Relax:

Stress already deteriorates body and mind functioning, so it’s vital to keep our anxieties at lower levels when the Skidmore plague is ready to attack. A great way to destress is to clean your room, which will also get rid of any plague germs!

Tackle It Early:

If you feel the slight tickle in your throat or an extra sense of tiredness in the morning, be proactive. Get some echinacea, a natural way to fight off colds by boosting your immune system, or Emergen-C, which will do the trick as well.
