Review: Big Little Lies

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Skidmore chapter.

If you haven’t hopped on the bandwagon and started watching HBO’s latest hit series, Big Little Lies, you’re seriously missing out. This show has everything from gorgeous houses in Northern California to Adam Scott with a dilf beard. The series is short with only 7 episodes in the entire season but each episode is an hour. That’s not to say that the episodes don’t go by super fast. Despite taking 6 classes, I finished the entire season in 2 weekdays. Nothing will get you to hit the elliptical for 2 hours like knowing you can spend those 2 hours watching Reese Witherspoon be a kick-ass mom.

Big Little Lies is based off of a book by Lane Moriarty. I have yet to read the book but you can bet I Amazon Primed it and will binge-read it as soon as I watch the finale on Sunday. The show deals with a whole host of issues such as an abusive relationship, a rebellious teenager, cheating, sexual assault, and divorce. BLL stars Shailene Woodley, Reese Witherspoon, and Nicole Kidman and features Zoë Kravitz, Alexander Skarsgård, Adam Scott, and Laura Dern.

My description of the show might sound like something only middle-aged women would enjoy, but almost every one of my girlfriends (all 22 and under) watch BLL and cannot get enough. Rumors are that the show has not been canceled but it was only intended to run for 1 season. We are keeping our fingers crossed that those are just rumors and that we will see more of our favorite characters in the future.
