We tend to separate college life from “the real world,” but who says we collegiettes™ have to stay out of touch? In this blog, Her Campus Skidmore brings national and global news to the campus.
October isn’t just a time for seasonal drinks and Halloween spooks. This month represents a national effort to raise awareness about breast cancer. You’ve probably heard of Breast Cancer Awareness month, but may not have left the Skidmore campus bubble long enough to realize that it’s going on right now! Even in a small town like Saratoga Springs, there are ways you can help support women who are fighting breast cancer. So read on to learn how even the simplest things can make a big difference.
Bras with a Cause!
At Clothes Line of Saratoga, bra sales will benefit the Saratoga Hospital Women’s Imaging Center to support breast cancer research, treatments and screenings. One bra is 10%, two bras are 20% off, and three or more bra purchases are 30% off! Located just downtown on Broadway, there’s no excuse not to treat yourself to a new bra (or a few), all while helping to find a cure.
Save the Ta-tas!
Want an even more convenient shopping trip? Head down to the Skidmore Shop and purchase a “Save the Ta-tas” shirt or hat! Part of the proceeds goes to fight breast cancer, and you’ll be spreading the message just by wearing your new witty digs! The Save the Ta-tas Foundation commits 5% of every sale (not just proceeds) to funding breast cancer research, so you can be sure that your dollar is really reaching those research labs!
Dig Pink
Want to support but don’t have much to spend? Go support the Skidmore women’s volleyball team! Starting on October 22, the volleyball team will be participating in Dig Pink, a nationwide event that raises money and awareness for breast cancer victims and survivors. The lady Thoroughbreds will be playing in the Skidmore Invitational on Oct. 28-29, where you can bring donations or just your full support! Last year, the team raised $2,315 for the cause! So mark your calendars, and don’t forget to wear pink!
Making Strides
Even though it’s later in the month, there are still walks in the local area that you can participate in to raise money! Grab a couple of your friends and head to the Glens Falls Civic Center on October 29 to Make Strides Against Breast Cancer! Click here to learn more.
