The art of the oatmeal is one that I have mastered over the past few months. I only accepted oatmeal as my soul mate when there was nothing else to eat at my grandma’s house when I visited her over break. I always thought it was too slimy and bland, but I have since found the path to oatmeal greatness. I’ve learned it’s really only about the two Ts: texture and toppings.

Texture: You want a texture that is not too runny and not too thick. It shouldn’t feel like soup, but it shouldn’t feel like mashed potatoes. Not too wet, not too dry. Just right.

Toppings: You need something that is easy to mix in and gives the oats some flavor. And, you need a little somethin’ somethin’ for pizzaz.

Below I have included some of my favorite ways to spice up plain oatmeal. These combos are guaranteed to get your morning started right.

Keep it simple with classic blueberries and brown sugar

Chocolate, coconut, and blueberries?! Yes, please!

Besides being really aesthetically pleasing, bananas are a great source of potassium. Just add some coconut and you’re all set for a delicious and nutritious breakfast.
