Halloween Costumes: Pop Culture

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Skidmore chapter.

You’ve already seen our tips for the best group costumes, but what if you’d rather fly solo? Coming up with the best costume is tough, but what better place to search for ideas than in the best pop culture moments of 2012? Here we go.

Jaded Women of Hollywood. Kristen and Rob, Katie and Tom, Arnold and Maria – this was a year of dramatic break-ups beefy enough to make the perfect sordid costumes. Get out your best sour face and try to get creative.

Olympic Parents. Remember when gymnast Aly Raisman’s parents made headlines for their ridiculously funny behavior when watching their daughter compete? And when Ryan Lochte’s mom revealed his tendency to have one-night stands? The Olympics are sure to be a popular theme this year, so pick the clever route and go as Olympic parents!

Nickelodeon Gone Wild. It’s no secret that Lindsay Lohan is Hollywood’s resident hot mess, but now Amanda Bynes has jumped on the trainwreck with her. Play with the mix between good girl and very bad girl and dress as the Nickelodeon disaster this Halloween!

Fifty Shades of Horny. Take a cue from Saturday Night Live and embrace the thousands of women who lock themselves in their bathroom to flip through the well-known trilogy in privacy. Mess up your hair, grab yourself a book, and be ready for the pleasure.

Glitzy, the Pagent Pig. Honey Boo Boo was one of the funniest and most ridiculous figures of the summer, and her family’s antics continuously topped headlines. But the craziest character of all was Glitzy, Honey Boo Boo’s tiara-wearing baby pig! That little devil makes for one of our favorite costumes of the Boo Boo clan. Time to throw on some pink ears!

Hear Snoop Roar. Snoop Dogg and his canine-themed raps have always been music staples, but this year he found his true spirit animal in the lion. The key to this costume is to embody Snoop’s transformation from dog to lion. Hybrid anyone?
