Fun Fall Activities to Spice up your Weekend

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Skidmore chapter.

Tired of the same old weekend routine? It’s easy to fall into a rut of staying out late and sleeping away the beautiful fall days, and then cramming in the library on Sundays. If this sounds all too familiar, it’s time to switch it up. Seize the day with some of these fun fall activities.

Your Weekend Itinerary

Friday Night:

  1. Host a festive potluck dinner. Have each of your friends bring a dish or beverage! Some ideas: apple cider, squash, pumpkin soup, colorful salad, etc. Even if your friends aren’t the chef-type, you can buy some delicious food downtown, or have a candy potluck and provide sugary snacks.
  2. Have a scary movie marathon. In the spirit of Halloween, gather a group of friends, a list of terrifying movies, and tons of popcorn! Don’t forget some warm blankets.

Saturday:

  1. Take a hike. Spend some time outdoors! Go for a walk in Northwoods, or if you are feeling bold, venture to unexplored territories. There are plenty of State Parks nearby, and there’s always Spa Park right down Broadway.
  2. Go apple picking. Apple season is almost over, and you definitely don’t want to miss out on the delicious Saratoga apples! Apple picking is great because it provides a full afternoon of fun plus a week’s worth of apples. Don’t miss out on any of the orchard’s attractions: make sure to try some apple cider donuts and go for a hayride.
  3. Photograph the foliage. Late afternoon is the best time to catch the sunshine on the colorful leaves. Go for a walk and take some pictures. The beautiful leaves will only last so long!

Sunday:

  1. Do some baking. Find a friend with a kitchen and whip up that festive recipe you’ve had your eye on. Whether it’s pumpkin muffins, apple pie, or just classic chocolate chip cookies, baking is a comforting activity that’s great for bonding with friends.
  2. Take a yoga class. Yoga is a great way to get your exercise in while also relaxing. Skidmore offers free yoga classes at 4pm on Sundays, and there are also a ton of wonderful studios in town if you want to try something different.
  3. Warm up at a coffee shop. A nice alternative to the library, coffee shops downtown offer an ideal setting for studying. Unfamiliar surroundings paired with an abundance of caffeine are sure to renew your productivity. Try Saratoga Coffee Traders or Uncommon Grounds.

Whether you’re a freshman or a senior, there’s always something new to break up your weekend routine.
