Her Campus Skidmore’s very own Maddie Schermerhorn takes dorm decorating to the next level; read on to experience her expertise for yourself!

Name: Maddie Schermerhorn

Year: 2017

Major: Anthropology; Minor: Spanish

Hometown: Scranton, PA

Her Campus: How long did it take to fully decorate?

MS: *Laughs* I had my mom and Dad help me set up when I first moved in. They rock. Then a few weeks into the semester, I moved dorms, so it was all up to me to set up my new room. That took about a week.

HC: What was your style inspiration when decorating your room?

MS: My mom and I made the decorations together. My mom saw the idea for the flag on Pinterest and then we made one of our own. Thanks, Pinterest.

HC: What is your favorite part of your room?

MS: I think my favorite thing about my room is that when I walk in it doesn’t feel like a dorm. Its really cozy and it feels like home.

HC: Where do you look for daily style inspiration?

MS: I look at Pinterest all the time, so I always see cool things I would want in my room on there. I also find inspiration at the stores I shop in, like Free People, which has awesome displays and store designs.

HC: What are your decorating plans for next semester?

MS: I’m excited to hopefully have an apartment so I can take my decorating from one room to many, plus a kitchen. Kitchen stuff is fun; it’s a whole new side of decorating. I hope my housemates are into decorating too.

English Major and Business Minor at Skidmore College and new Co-CC of Skidmore HC. Spends free time hanging out with friends, taking yoga classes and dancing, and admittedly binge-watching her favorite Netflix shows.
