During the holidays, decorating a gingerbread house is one of those things I have to do … it’s just a fact. There are somany ways to approach the decorating, and I’m going to show you one way step-by-step!
Make sure you have tons of candy to choose from! Once you’re sure you have all proper materials, it’s time to build the foundation…
Clearly, you can tell that there were some cracks in the foundation when I opened the gingerbread package, so I improvised and gorilla glued them all back together before constructing the base. My love is decorating the houses, not baking them, so I usually settle for the pre-made gingerbread pieces. Moving on, I almost always start the decorations with the roof…
It’s helpeful to have somewhat of an idea about how you’re going to decorate before you actually start, think about all the candy you have and where certain candies may go. Clearly, snowcaps were my go-to for the roof…
Q-tips are awesome for perfecting details and cleaning up areas where frosting got a little crazy. Use a q-tip kind of like an eraser.
(The key is to make it look like icicles are hanging from the roof)
I actually cut (with scissors, yes) sour apple candies into slices to make this wreath…yes, it is intense.
Love it. Happy Holidays!
