Classy Halloween Costumes

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Skidmore chapter.

Trying to pick a good Halloween costume but uncomfortable in the typical sea of short skirts, barely-there tops and animal ears? Maybe it’s time to take a complete 180 and try something glam! Grab your nicest frock, hold your head high and try out some of these classy costumes.

Favorite Old-Time Actress. From Audrey to Marilyn to Brigitte Bardot, there are so many girls from Old Hollywood to embody. Plus, it’s hard to feel more beautiful than when you’re decked out in the gloss and silk of classic actresses.

Greek Goddesses. Throwing on a toga is boring, but picking a specific goddess is a good way to stay royal with a twist. Let your hair flow, throw on a gold tiara and jewelry, wear an elegant white dress, add some flare to represent the goddess you choose and you’re good to go.

Teatime. The epitome of high culture is teatime, so why not let it inspire you? Teatime is not just for the queen. Grab a group of girls, find a puffy skirt, and bring that earl gray to life.

Red Carpet. Celebrities pull out all the stops when they hit the red carpet, and there have been some incredible iconic moments to admire. Instead of lusting after the designer gowns, make a version of your own and spend Halloween as your favorite, most glamorous red carpet look.

Literary Figures. Ever wished you could step into a Bronte novel or Gone With the Wind? Now’s the time to do it! Get creative as you imagine some of these characters’ looks! Makes a great excuse to improve a desired accent (if applicable!).
