Though we’re still in the height of the Halloween season, part of my brain is already prepping for the holidays. After years of not knowing what to say when my grandparents ask what I want for Christmas, I’ve learned to keep my ear out for potential gift ideas year-round. Of course I’m an adult now and will never again create long, unrealistic Santa lists, but my new stage of life has also allowed me to find a solid few items that I know would improve my day-to-day experience. Here’s a few I thought would be useful:
a portable espresso machine
These espresso machines are cool because they’re not countertop appliances, but rather magic little pods that are only a few inches long. I would love to be able to make real espresso in my dorm, but I can’t justify the purchase of a whole machine because I also consistently get coffee from the Dining Hall and Burgess. If I had this more affordable and space-efficient option for my dorm, I could have the option of homemade espresso without breaking the bank.
The perfect work bag
This holiday season I’ll be almost halfway through college, and yet I still haven’t found the right bag to take to my classes. I used my high school backpack in freshman year, while this year I’ve been cycling through totes (cute, but ineffective). I’ve been waiting to find the perfect leather work bag that will last me years and years, and this Christmas I might just find that bag!
those tiny travel toothbrushes
I brush my teeth first-thing, but sometimes I feel the need for round two once I’ve had breakfast (and especially ones I’ve had coffee). However, by that time I’m out of my room for the day. That’s why I could really use these tiny disposable brushes for when I’m in a pinch—they seem super convenient because it looks like a little toothpaste is already included in each one.
fleece-lined tights
These tights have been gaining major popularity in the last couple years, but you haven’t already heard: Their fabric is made to look like classic black sheer tights, while they are actually lined with fleece that is the color of your skin. That way, you can stay warm while sticking to your fashion vision. I already own one pair and love them, so I’d love a second so I can wear them more often in the winter.
A water flosser
This is one I’m still researching, but I feel like I must try it at some point in my life. It’s a machine that resembles an electric toothbrush, but instead it flosses your teeth with water pressure. If this ends up seeming like a good purchase, it would definitely benefit my life as someone who sometimes struggles with the motivation to floss traditionally.
Overall, I know these items are solid because I could get just one for them for the holidays and be more than happy—because I’d know it’d improve my life. Even if these ideas aren’t up your alley, maybe you’ll get inspired to start a list of your own early-on! It’s always smart to tune in to what moments of your life could be upgraded, so you know where to turn when you have the opportunity to do so.
