Halloween is coming up and there is always the stressful experience of figuring out your costume. Here are some easy DIY costumes you can do by yourself or with your friends!

Despicable Me Minion

What you need:

  • 1 yellow knit hat
  • 2 cardboard tape rolls
  • 3 pipe cleaners
  • 1 pair of scissors
  • 1 stapler
  • 1 piece of black construction paper
  • 1 yellow tank top or bandeau
  • 1 pair of blue shorts
  • 1 pair of suspenders

Let’s start at the top! Take your pipe cleaners and cut them into thirds. Then staple them into the top of the hat to be the hair of the minion. Then take your two tape rolls, staple them together in the middle, and connect a piece of black construction paper long enough to fit around your head to both sides.  There you have the top part of the minion! Super easy.

For the body, all you need is to put your suspenders on your shorts, put on your yellow top and your hat and you’re all set to go!

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle

What you need:

  • 1 light green tutu/Sofee shorts
  • 1 light green sports bra
  • 1 dark green cheap tank top
  • 1 pair of light green socks
  • 1 bandana in the color of your turtle of choice
  • 1 piece of black construction paper
  • Some rhinestones
  • Light green paint or light green construction paper

For the body, take your cheap tank top and start making the abs of the turtles with the paint or green construction paper. Then make your belt! Use the black construction paper and put the initial of your ninja of choice in rhinestones on it and pin it to your tank top. Put the tank top on under the sports bra, top it off with your tutu and socks, and you will be ready to kick some butt!

Toddlers & Tiaras Participant

This popular TLC series has got some real characters in it, and what better way to celebrate the holiday of dressing up with this over-the-top costume!

What you need:

  • 1 white shirt
  • 1 tutu or skirt in whichever color you would like (though preferably pink or purple)
  • 1 tiara
  • 1 pacifier
  • 1 sash and fabric paint

Put whatever title you’d like on your sash and then strut what your mama gave you into any costume party out there.

Loofah

What you need:

  • 1 single-color romper or 1 tank top with 1 pair of spandex shorts
  • About 20 yards of netting or tulle
  • 1 yard of rope
  • 1 box of safety pins

Take your netting and start pinning to your tank and shorts or romper! Pin until you can’t see what is underneath the tulle anymore. Then take your rope and pin it close to the top of the loofah, as close to your shirt as you can and there you go!

Ty Beanie Babies

What you need:

  • 1 hat with an animal on it. (You can buy the hat and animal separately and attach them, or you can buy a hat with the animal already attached!)
  • 1 dress/shirt and shorts combo that is the same color as the animal you chose
  • 2 pieces of cardboard
  • 2 pieces of string/rope
  • 1 pair of scissors

The only real assembling you have to do for this costume is to make the necklace that has your animal’s story on the inside of the tag. You have to make the Ty symbol and write in the tag, then attach the string so the cardboard can hang from your neck! And there you are—a flashback to your favorite stuffed animal.

Get creative this Halloween! You don’t have to break the bank on a store-bought costume to rock Moorebid (or any anti-Moorebid party you’re planning instead). These DIY costumes are the perfect way to steal the spotlight!
