It’s obvious that you’ll see a model in a magazine or an actress in a movie and think that they’re beautiful. Perfect, glowing skin, white teeth, red lips, and long eyelashes. How could you not think that’s beautiful? We’ve all looked at Vogue or Seventeen or watched any Blake Lively movie ever and gawked at how beautiful those women are. But ask yourself this: What really is beauty?

Culture moves technology, and guess what? Culture is changing everyday. Luckily, those stereotypes about what a gorgeous woman looks like are being torn down because culture, technology, and women everywhere are coming together and changing that very image. The great invention of the iPhone has brought us many conveniences and pleasures, including the art of taking a selfie. With social media having such a prominent place in culture today, the power of the selfie has been extremely monumental in shaping what beauty really is.

This video is a short film called “Selfie” created by Dove, specifically for their “#BeautyIs Campaign.” Watch the beauty that was once worshipped move toward becoming something of the past.

Samantha Kelly from mashable.com wrote a response article after seeing this video, and she reported that “a new study conducted by Dove revealed about 82% of women believe social media is influencing how we define beauty today.” This means that we’re coming together and telling ourselves, our friends, and our family, that we don’t want there to be a standard of beauty.  And we’re doing all of this by posting selfies.

You don’t look like models you see in a magazine? Good. You’re different. Take a selfie and show the world.
