The Three New Dog Breeds You Have to Meet

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SJU chapter.

While many people across the country gather around the TV on Thanksgiving to watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade; I’ve always been more excited for what comes on directly after: The Kennel Club of Philadelphia’s National Dog Show!

This year’s National Dog Show not only featured the usual adorable pups to please dog lovers nationwide, but it also debuted three new dog breeds! The three new breeds that were featured among the 202 breeds/varieties showcased in the National Dog Show were the American Hairless Terrier, the Sloughi, and the Pumi.

Let’s meet these three new breeds:

1. American Hairless Terrier

The American Hairless Terrier is known to be energetic and intelligent. This breed originated in 1972 when one pup in a litter of Rat Terriers was born hairless.

American Hairless Terriers make for great watchdogs because of their strong hunting instincts.

These cute pups are hypoallergenic, so they are perfect for anyone suffering from allergies. And LOOK at that face!

2. Sloughi (pronounced SLOO-ghee)

The Sloughi is a medium-large dog with short hair that is known for its hunting skills and speed.

These pups could be described using adjectives such as graceful, quiet, and reserved while inside the house.

The Sloughi has a “melancholic” expression and has an unwavering, quiet loyalty to its owner. And just look at this picture… so regal. Literal royalty.

3. Pumi

The Pumi is a super energetic and lively medium-sized breed that is always willing to work.

These pups are amazing herders with wavy and curly hair.

The Pumi is said to always hold a whimsical expression. And just LOOK at those ears. OMG.

Hopefully this cuteness overload will brighten your week, and maybe even inspire you to add one of these new dog breeds to your Christmas list!
