Things to Do in Philly this Fall

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SJU chapter.

A new school year means that it’s time for Hawks from all across the country to converge back on the city of Philadelphia, a city full of fun activities for college students to enjoy. The approaching fall season especially brings about an endless amount of events and festivals to distract from the piling schoolwork.

Here are some events you don’t want to miss this fall in Philly:

CollegeFest: On Saturday, September 9 from 10 am to 3 pm, students from all over Philly will come together to explore their “extended campus,” the city of Philadelphia! CollegeFest offers free admission to museums, free rides around the city, live music, giveaways and games, and food to enjoy. The best part? CollegeFest is a totally free event! Fringe Festival: From September 7-24, check out local, national, and international shows in theater, dance, comedy, visual art, and spoken word through the extravagant festival known as the Fringe Festival! This year, the festival will run in over a dozen neighbors around Philly and should draw around 40,000 people. More info here: http://fringearts.com

Manayunk StrEAT Food Festival: Two times a year, the streets of Manayunk transform into a food festival, highlighting the best local food trucks, eateries, and entertainment that Manayunk has to offer. This daylong festival will be held on September 14. More info here: http://manayunk.com/news-and-events/events/fall-streat-food-festival.html (photo via visitphilly.com)

Terror Behind the Walls: If you’re in the mood to be totally spooked then check out Terror Behind the Walls, an interactive haunted attraction held at the Eastern State Penitentiary, one of the most famous prisons in the world. This haunted attraction will be open on select dates from September 15-November 4. More info here: https://www.easternstate.org/halloween/

Harry Potter Festival in Chestnut Hill: Wizard and witches rejoice; the annual Harry Potter Festival will once again take over the magical little town of Chestnut Hill, located right outside Philly. Festival goers of all ages can enjoy film screenings, magical food and drinks, quidditch tournaments, and much more! More info here: https://chestnuthillpa.com/harry-potter-festival-2017/
