Snapshot: Fiona Tomlin ’16

Meet Fiona, a junior Political Science major and my roomie since freshman year. She brings her casual cool California style to Philly whether she is going to class or even the gym. You’ll never catch her in sweats (even after a long Thursday night at Mad River)!

How would you describe your style?

It’s somewhere between East coast classic and West coast casual. I gravitate towards more tailored, feminine pieces (you’ll never catch me in sweatpants) but I have to be comfortable too.

How does your style differ from when you’re in Philly to when you’re in Cali?

During the school year in Philly I’m dressing for class, work, etc. so I put more thought into my outfits. I’m more put-together and warmer of course! In California, I live in sundresses, and sandals or workout clothes, and in general my style becomes much more low-key. For example, I let my hair air dry into loose waves instead of blowing it out and setting it in hot rollers. When you live by the beach, everything is simpler.

Favorite places to shop?

Nordstrom and Bloomingdales, but I also love a good deal at TJ Maxx or H&M. And my favorite is a flash sale site called Hautelook where you can find high-end brands at low prices.

What is one clothing item you can’t live without?

I’m a believer in the power of a good bra. Every woman should be professionally fitted, no matter what your size – it changed my life. Your clothes will fit so much better.

If you could switch closets with any celebrity who would it be?

Lauren Conrad always looks polished and 100% herself. Love her style!
