Obama care is still struggling, leading to possible changes.

Since the implementation of Obamacare the public had been disappointed and in some cases even outraged with how the law has been carried out. The website meant to register mass amounts of people for insurance has so far only registered 106,000 people. Along with smaller numbers registering, many insurance plans that do not meet the Affordable Care Act (ACA) standards are being cancelled, leaving former policy-holders without the insurance that they were content with. There has been talk to add a year extension to cancelled plans to give people time to make new insurance plans.

Construction companies are fined for building collapse in Philadelphia.

On June 5, 2013 a building on Market Street in Philadelphia collapsed. The building was in the process of being demolished. When it collapsed it fell onto the Salvation Army store neighboring it. After investigation, the blame was placed on two construction companies involved in the demolition for failing to follow “basic safety precautions.” The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration feels that had basic protocols been followed this tragedy that killed six people would not have happened. Campbell Construction, the lead contractor, was fined $313,000 and S&R Contracting was fined an additional $84,000.

‘Sweetie’ Sting lures thousands of online predators.

Children’s rights group Terre des Homme created a computer generated 10-year-old girl in hopes of catching pedophiles who are willing to pay for a young girl’s webcam sex performance. Sweetie is part of the organization’s campaign against webcam child sex tourism. In an Amsterdam warehouse researchers entered online chat rooms posing as ‘Sweetie.’ They controlled her facial expressions, movements, and speech. While the fake girl talked to the men online, the activists tracked down the men’s identities using only information that they reveled. Over the course of the 2.5 month long sting operation the group identified 1,000 adults from 71 countries willing to pay to see children in developing countries preform sex acts on a webcam.

Typhoon affects 11 million in the Philippines.

Typhoon Haiyan’s strength set records. Winds constantly held at 160 miles per hour with gusts over 180 miles per hour. There was also a 16-foot storm surge, which caused the worst damage. The death toll stands at more then 2,300 people, most of who drowned, were hit by debris, or trapped under rubble. The country has received less help than expected. The people still living are the main concern now. Many were left homeless after the storm. Days after the disaster food, medical supplies, and clean water had yet to reach the most affected areas. However, an American military operation is now flying in to provide significant aid to the affected areas.
