The Boston Red Sox win the World Series.

For the third time in the past ten years the Boston Red Sox are the World Series Champions. However, it was the first time in 95 years since the Sox had won at Fenway Park. The sixth and final game of the series was played on October 30th, where the Red Sox beat the cardinals 6-1, ending the series with 4 wins and 2 losses. At 3 in the morning hundreds of fans still packed the field at Fenway Park taking in their team’s win. The team will be acknowledged by the city on Saturday with a parade.

NSA reportedly intercepted information from Google and Yahoo users.

Reports were leaked earlier this week that the National Security Agency (NSA) has been using spy networks to tap into data networks of Google and yahoo to obtain millions of text, video, and audio records everyday. Reportedly the data is being taken mostly from the cloud servers of both the internet giants. The material that is collected in part of a program with the code name of MUSCULAR, a program that in the US would be illegal but it takes place internationally. Healthcare.gov website continues to struggle.

The website that is supposed to allow Americans to sign up for “Obamacare” is still having numerous technical difficulties. This opens up a door for the opponents of Obamacare to convince the American public that it is a failure. It has come out that the way congress goes about contracting out projects like healthcare.gov basically guaranteed that the website would not be up to par. The system discourages all but that largest technological companies and companies with political connections from bidding on the project. Congress members are hopeful that with the large amount of technical work being put in the sight now that the site will be glitch free within the next few weeks.

New information helps to understand Alzheimer’s genetic code.

The journal Nature Genetics published a study that examined the genes of almost 75,00 people across 15 countries as a part of Genomics of Alzheimer’s Project which is the largest Alzheimer’s study ever. From that data 11 genes were targeted and identified as being associated with Alzheimer’s giving doctors and scientists double the number of gene’s linked to the disease than they had been aware of before. Researcher’s continue to work to understand the disease so they can find a cure.
