Never Cringe at the Sight of Fringe Again

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SJU chapter.

Straight out of the 70s, fringe is making a major comeback in 2015. What’s old is new again and fringe is literally “hanging” on every rack. Whether you’re paying hundreds of dollars for a fabulous suede jacket or counting out your one dollar bills for a cheap, yet chic pair of booties, fringe is on trend and accessible for every budget.  You can go full on hippie or add a little to flair to an outfit. Here are some ways to add fall’s “must have” to your wardrobe:

1) The bag

Fringe bags can add punch and style to any outfit.  I love my new Free People black hobo faux suede fringe bag and I have seen similar styles at every price point – check out Forever 21 for some bargain versions. Another bag trend that has taken off from the west coast’s Coachella festival is the fringe crossbody. It’s a perfect way to add a little “something something” to a simple outfit. While some fringe styles are a little high in price point, here are a few great steals to get the trendy look.

2) The necklace

There is a new twist to collared statement necklaces, which have been on trend for a while now, and that is (you guessed it) fringe.  Brands like American Eagle are selling these fashionable pieces at reasonable price of $40. While some collared fringe necklaces tend to have higher price points, there are a ton of options that won’t break the bank. Opt to pair a neutral fringe necklace with a basic white to to transform your everyday look in just minutes.

3) The jacket

Dive into the 70s and into your mom’s closet! You might get lucky and find a vintage prize. Fringe jackets add an edgy vibe and can work over a simple tight dress or with a pair of jeans and a tank. Stick with classic colors and shapes so you can wear your jacket with just about anything in your wardrobe.  And if you don’t want to go “full jacket”, there are vests that can add that “hippie chic” look to your favorite fall outfit.

4) The bootie

Over the last several seasons, “booties” have become a popular year-long trend. They are more comfy and versatile than knee-high boots and you can dress them up or down by wearing them with jeans, skirts, shorts or dresses. Take your booties to the next level by buying a pair with a bit of fringe.  Step into fall fashion by adding bit of a boho vibe to any outfit.
