Monograms: The guide to finding yourself with three letters

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SJU chapter.

Monograms  are not only preppy and adorable, but they can be your staple piece in expressing yourself.  Maybe right now you are thinking, “Too preppy for me!” But If monograms are not for you, they might be for a friend. Everyone loves a personalized gift, the time and effort, the perfection placed on a single item for a single person. A monogram makes everyone feel special. You don’t necessarily have to order monogrammed items- they can be DIY items too!! I have been on a monogramming kick lately and here are some of my very favorite pieces that I have added a personal touch to for myself but also pieces that have made for a perfect gift.

I ordered both of these tees below from Etsy (www.etsy.com). They are both “Comfort Colors” brand, which holds up extremely well when washed. I chose the monogram color and the shirt color- they have a great selection! The pink tee is short sleeved and looks super cute with high-waisted jean shorts. No matter how you wear these tees, you can’t go wrong!

My next discovery was first seen on Pinterest. These adorable wrap around monogrammed stickers are for your phone charger! They were super easy to create (DIY!!) All you need are shipping labels, which vary on the kind of printer you have. Visit (www.forchicsake.com/printables) to get the PDF downloads to create your personal charger sticker! All you need to do is download the template and put your initials in then press print. The website gives you an entire page on templates varying in color, font and patterns! So easy and an awesome way to never get your charger confused with a friend’s!

Since back to school is soon, I got thinking on ideas for my binders. I came across this one on Pinterest, and tried it myself (far left) and it came out perfect (another great DIY!!) If you “like” Jessica Marie Design on Facebook, you can get these free printable binder covers! Just download the PDF again and insert your initials. Print them on computer paper or slightly thicker white paper and slip them into the front cover of your binder! Personal and super chic!

One of my best-kept secrets is (www.initialreaction.net) where they have everything from silver monogram earrings to every color of the rainbow acrylic monogram necklaces.  Initial Reaction headquarters out of a small store in Fairfield, CT but their website is fabulous to order from, and select small boutiques carry their products, made to order. Many colors, sizes and fonts are available. Initial Reaction even makes Oprah’s list as a must have!! http://initialreaction.net/

Another favorite of mine is the monogram sticker. You can use this for virtually anything- a computer, a water bottle, a phone case, or even to put on a planner or binder to personalize. My favorite website to use to order stickers is (2preppygirls.com)! On their website they offer car decals, and decals of all colors and sizes and fonts. You can choose a border, or just leave it plain. The website also offers so many more monogrammed items such as bags, aprons, phone cases, coasters, candles, cutting boards, drinkwear, hats, jewelry and even clip boards!

One of our Her Campus writers has her Jack Rogers monogrammed! We love Jacks and the monogram makes them even cuter and more personal.

So, it’s time for you to take your college style to a new level with monograms and enjoy the results!
