March Madness 101: What you need to know

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SJU chapter.

As a diehard college basketball fan, my favorite time of the year is finally here. March Madness.

If you didn’t know, March Madness is the annual NCAA college basketball tournament that is spread over four weeks and four regions with 68 teams competing for the championship.  It is “madness” because if your team loses, their season is over. Small schools have as much of a chance as the big power teams. Every couple of years heroes are made with unknown schools upsetting the usual top teams. The best way to enjoy the tournament is to predict those upsets and get in a bracket challenge with your friends, dorm or family online at ESPN or CBS. The Her Campus team even has a bracket pool where the girl with the best bracket wins a prize! Create a pool with your friends and may the odds be ever in your favor.

The SJU Hawks have made it into this year’s tournament! Hot from coming off of their A10 Championship this past weekend, the Hawks come into the tournament as a #8 seed. They are competing in the West Region with their first game up against #9 seed the Cincinnati Bearcats.

March Madness starts March 15th, and culminates with the championship game on Monday, April 4th in Houston, Texas. Our Hawks’ first game is Friday March 18th, at 9:57 PM. Cheer on the Hawks this Friday at the Perch, a dorm lounge, or a viewing party rocking your crimson and grey and remember THWND!

HCXO,

Katie
