As the weather warms up, restaurants and bars are becoming more enjoyable due to their outdoor seating, happy-hour menus, and appetizers that can feed your whole squad. A short drive from SJU lies everyone’s favorite neighborhood, Manayunk. Or commonly referred to as “Yunk.” Since living in Yunk I have tried my best to take every opportunity to go to as many restaurants on Main Street. Here is a list of a few of my favorite restaurants and some suggestions to make your dining experience in Yunk, as good as the food.

  1. Taqueria Feliz

When you are looking for that Mexican fix, but are sick of Chipotle, hit up Taqueria Feliz. They have amazing half off margaritas during happy hour, that you can enjoy with FREE chips and salsa. Obviously, order some guacamole as well- they give you a lot of green goodness and will gladly refill your chips. My favorite menu item is the tortilla soup because not only is it huge, but it is only $5. If you are feeling adventurous I suggest ordering the tacos de chapulines. These two tacos are filled with cilantro, onions guac, and grasshoppers! If grasshoppers and guac are not your thing, the menu includes all your mexican favorites including enchiladas, tacos, nachos, and quesadillas.

2. The Juice Merchant

After a weekend filled with pizza, fries, and booze, a cleanse is almost always necessary. As mentioned in the name, The Juice Merchant serves various health juices that can be made to order, and also offers the option of pre-made juices, and house-made infused waters. If liquid meals are not for you, The Juice Merchant also offers smoothies that you can customize by adding various supplements. If you’re looking for healthy eats, this place also offers salads, sandwiches, and smoothie bowls.

3. Chole’s Corner

If you’re walking around Yunk late at night, and those post-Mad River munchies hit, instead of grabbing a piece of pizza, go get some ice cream! Not only will you feel better in the morning, but you will also skip Mike’s and DeSandro’s long lines. Chloe’s Corner offer milkshakes, soft-serve ice cream and various frozen treats. Right next to Chloe’s is what is commonly referred to as “the tent,” which offers amazing cheesesteaks. Perfect one-stop.

4. Greg’s Kitchen

Who doesn’t love brunch? Yunk is filled with lots of restaurants that have amazing brunch menus. When looking for a great breakfast with a unique twist, head to Greg’s Kitchen, which is located directly under the bridge on Main Street. Greg’s is known for their “Breaky in A Bowl,” which includes; eggs, cheese, bacon, and tater tots. Yum. Greg’s also includes a long list of, creative omelets on their menus. The portions are perfect, and the price is fairly inexpensive. Win, win!
