1. Don’t Drink Your Calories, Choose Water

It is always easier said than done, but half of this campus carries around their S’well water bottles already, so just make sure it is always filled with water. When your water is in front of you as an option, you are more likely to drink it, even when you are not thirsty. Water will help keep you hydrated, help your skin and the overall health of your body.

2. Take the Stairs

SJU is filled with stairs, and as hot as it is in the beginning of the semester, make it a habit to take the staris. Even if it takes you that extra minute, your legs and body will thank you in the end.

3. Healthy Subsitutes

I can’t lie I have a soft spot for hawk wraps, but instead of fried chicken get grilled chicken, and instead of a regular wrap get whole wheat. It sounds simple, but every healthier option you choose will pay off in the long run!

4. Make a Gym Schedule

If you pre-plan your day at the gym it can start to become a part of your routine. Set aside time in your week that works for you and you will soon find it can become something you look forward too because it gives you a break from class or homework.

5. Don’t Skip Breakfast

I know it sounds super cliché, but eating breakfast is a way to start your metabolism and wake yourself up for the day! By skipping a meal, especially the first one of the day, it can cause you to over eat later. Properly fueling your body right from the start should be something you don’t go without, even if it’s a granola bar or a Campion omelette.

6. Fill your Apartment with Healthy Snacks

If you do want to snack late night or during the day, fill your apartment with healthy options that you enjoy! Whole grain chips, 100-calorie packs, fresh fruit, veggies, etc. But, be careful you don’t overeat something just because it has less calories- it all about moderation.

7. Moderation is Key

We are all in college and like to have fun. If you have a cheat day or weekend, just make sure you are balancing out what you are eating the rest of the week. Don’t cut out any food completely – just beware if you had hamburgers, fries and a milkshake one weekend, aim to eat cleaner during the week. Your body will thank you for it!
