1) Kimmy. No, not the store and not the food, but Kimmy herself. This woman is an actual angel sent down from Heaven. I’m half convinced that she’s super human, because I have no idea how someone can remember that many names. She honestly just cares so much about the students at SJU, and it shows.
2) Public Safety escorts. Okay okay, I know there will be some objections, but admit it, those vans have helped you out in a pickle more times than you can count. Whether you are in a bad situation, or just not in the mood to get spilled on anymore, those maroon rockets have put the pedal to the metal and gotten you home in time to order Dominos and throw on some Netflix.
3) Singing “We Are Called”. Whether it’s at mass or before leaving for a service trip…or just because it’s a really good song, We Are Called is probably the catchiest church hymn ever (although Go Tell it On the Mountain is a close competitor ). It’s just one of those songs that makes your eyes tear up out of nowhere, and your heart swell up like you just met a really cute boy. Warning: this song will stay in your head for days.
4) The Hawk. Honestly, this is the coolest mascot in all of college sports. Do you know of any other mascot that consistently moves throughout an entire collegiate Division 1 basketball game? Me neither. #THWND
5) Maguire Campus. It’s kind of hard to imagine life now without hearing “The walk sign is now on to cross City Avenue” and making your trek over to class in Merion, but once upon a time SJU did not own that whole part of campus so I think it’s something we can definitely all be thankful for. I’ll bet you or someone you know has taken their favorite class there, or played their heart out on the basketball court.
6) Recreation Classes. There’s a lot of people at SJU that were involved on sports teams in high school, and no, they will not be too modest to tell you all about it. But, once we reach the collegiate level, a lot of times joining a club team might not be practical due to scheduling or time constraints. These classes give us the chance to work-out with a coach telling us what to do, without the big commitment. Not to mention they’re cheap. I highly recommend trying “Better Body Bootcamp”, or Yoga.
7) Larry’s. Whether you hate to love, or love to hate cheesesteaks, sometimes there’s nothing you want more after a night out with the ladies. The hours of this establishment can’t be beat (or tamed), and you know you’ll always run into a friendly face, whether it’s one of the cooks, or that girl you are kind of obsessed with from your bio class. When all else fails, Larry’s will always be there for you.
