Club Lib- the elusive second floor study area on the PLC side of the library (keyword being “study”). When putting college students together in one area socializing takes place of course, but the library is mainly where people come to get schoolwork done. Here is what actually happens in Club Lib.
1. Waving
At peak times of the day and night, Club Lib is packed with nowhere to sit. There’s always an awkward walk past the area with an occasional wave to those who have a table. If there’s no room, you simply have to continue on to the old side.
2. Apologizing
It is always sad when you see a friend enter Club Lib, but there’s no room for them at the table. They then send you a Snapchat from a freezing cold spot on the old side. Is it too late now to say sorry?
3. Eating
College students are two things – broke and hungry. This often elicits the fast and easy deliveries from Jimmy John’s, Chinese takeout, or food from the POD. Thank your parents for the Hawk Cash that fuels your sour gummy worm addiction.
4. Crying
Sadly, there are times where crying seems to be the only solution. Instead of spending 30 valuable minutes on your term paper, you just cry. It makes total sense.
5. Socializing
It is hard to sit next to friends and not talk about the recent MRT drama or your least favorite professor. While it may be distracting, it is important to find ways to smile while stressed at the lib. Happiness reaches a new level when your whole squad claims a 6-person table.
6. Studying
Believe or not, most people come to the library to actually study. It is nice to have a place where you can find multiple people to help you or to sympathize with you on your impossible class. It always feels good to walk out of Club Lib with at least a little something done to make your all-nighter a little more tolerable.
It is special to have a place like Club Lib to be able to go to and know you’ll find some of your friends. Whether you get work done, that’s your decision, but it is important to enjoy your days on Hawk Hill, too. See you in Club Lib soon Hawks!
