If you are like me then you have had it with winter! By mid-February, even the ice queens need a thaw. The month between Valentine’s Day and the first day of spring is always difficult. With midterms and other obligations on top of the brutal weather, the winter blues is a real. Below are ways we can all get out of the cold weather funk to enjoy the last weeks of winter.

  1. Plan for spring break If you are someone who absolutely HATES winters, planning a vacation to a sunny locale will get you out of that icy mindset. Whether you are actually going away for spring break or not, just thinking of a tropical vacation will warm you up.

  2. Buy summer clothes Buying a new pair of sunnies or a sundress is just the thing we all need to give us those summer vibes. Also, Shopping = happy. Do we really need an explanation?

  3. Enjoy snow days For most this is counterintuitive, but if you are someone who typically enjoys winter, and still find yourself in low spirits during this time of year, play in the snow like a kid! During the next storm, plan to actually play outside. Build a snowman, make a snow angel, or if you are feeling particularly adventurous plan an epic snowball fight!

  4. Practice Hygge Hygge (pronounced hoo-ga) is the Danish lifestyle term that describes the cozy contentment in enjoying the simplicity of life. Sipping tea on a snowy afternoon or snuggling under the blanket are easy ways to incorporate the hygge philosophy. Afterall, if we need tips to a survive harsh and depressing winter, we could all learn a thing or two from the Danes.

  5. Spend quality time with friends It goes without saying that this is a busy time of year for all college students. We can all be guilty of neglecting our friends and family. That being said, it is important to spend time with friends. This will center your mind and recharge your psyche for the next few weeks.

  6. Indulge your hobbies Find an indoor activity such as reading, video games, or drawing that you might not make time during the warm weather months. It is an enjoyable way to pass the time while honing your artistic side.

So there you have it. A comprehensive list of things to survive these last weeks before spring. As you can see, winter is not horrible, it’s just cold.
