The Average Beginner’s Experience to Sex Toys

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SJSU chapter.

Let me preface this by saying that I am sure I have a high libido, but despite that, it took me years through my active sex life to finally include sex toys.

Spoiler alert, it’s life changing!

Using toys for my intimate sex life has been in my thoughts for quite some time before I gave it a go. What took me so long to finally say yes?

I was scared to use sex toys. I was scared of how it would make me feel. I was scared that if I used them, liberation through my own pleasure would make me lose every part of “saving myself”. I used to feel ashamed. However, after a talk with my partner and reading a few blogs from Lovers, I became convinced that pleasure toys are enhancements to a sexier intimate life.

There is one thing I knew I wouldn’t do to kickstart this sex toy life, that I definitely was not planning on going in-store to purchase any sexy product. I’m not saying it’s wrong, but my introverted self would much rather stare through my laptop screen as I read through which gadgets would be best for me.

Through Lovers, a sex toy retail company that has in the business for over 40 years, I was able to get not one, not two, but five beginner-friendly toys. What helped me ease into getting these toys was reading blogs from Lovers’ beginner-friendly blog section.

If you’re considering getting a toy, I recommend this blog on how to shop for sex toys and this blog on how you can successfully achieve an orgasm.

Before purchasing any toy at all, it’s highly recommended that you also invest in lube and toy cleaner. Caring for your body and toy is just as important as self-pleasure.

Right after using the toy, immediately wash it with soap and warm water, pat dry it and store it somewhere clean.

Alright now that that’s out of the way, let me tell you about what I got.

  1. We-Vibe Tango X Bullet

This is the smallest and most discreet toy out of all five toys. The bullet vibrates. It is used to generate pleasure in erogenous parts of your body and is great for travel because of how small it is. It’s even waterproof!

  1. We-Vibe Touch X

When I tell you I LOVE this one! The We-Vibe Touch X is just like the We-Vibe Tango X Bullet only it has a curvature that makes parts of your body feel nice. It has many vibration settings and eight different intensity levels. It comes in a cute coral color and is totally travel-sized.

  1. Lovers Juicy G Dual Vibrator

To be frank, of all the toys I got, this one was the most intimidating. This toy is meant to be inserted and the little side of it stimulates the clitoris. You will likely need lubricant for this toy, but I promise the result of a big O will be worth it!

  1. Buttercup Wand Mini Wand Vibrator

Another vibrator! What sets this one apart is that this toy has a head to really stimulate those hard-to-please places. I will say though, this one is the loudest one out of all of them.

  1. We-Vibe Cosmic Blue Chorus

Last but not least, we have the Cosmic Blue Chorus. This is remote controlled, app controlled and benefits solo or partner play. I personally loved using this alone and in the bedroom with my partner!

Three of the five products were made by We-Vibe, and man, the experience with all of the products were immaculate. We-Vibe had beautiful, deluxe packaging with great copy. I personally loved the clever copy when first opening the box. “Pleasure to meet you,” the We-Vibe box greets.

We-Vibe provides an easy step-by-step guide on how to use their toys, a sample size of water-based lubricant, and all three toys but the We-Vibe chorus came with a satin bag for you to place your toy.

The only downsides during my time of beginner sex toys is that some of them are noisier than I thought which can be a little hard to get used to, especially if one is trying to get into the mood.

Other than that, I’d say I’m pretty happy with my decision on including sex toys into my intimate life. I encourage you to do it too if or when you feel ready!
