The A-List of Spooky Tunes for this Halloween Season

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SJSU chapter.

Everyone loves Halloween. Seriously, I’ve never met anyone who doesn’t. From all the creative decorations to the variety of costumes, Halloween is one of the best times of the year. Did I mention the free candy? To start off #spookyseason2018, here’s a list of my favorite songs to jam out to during October:

Spooky Scary Skeletons by Spooky Scary Skeletons This song should be at the top of everyone’s list. The catchy hook and beat are bound to get anyone out of their chair and dancing.

This Is Halloween – From “The Nightmare Before Christmas” by The Citizens of Halloween The Nightmare Before Christmas is a classic movie to watch in October. I practically give a Broadway performance of this song anytime it comes on!

Monster Mash by Don Hinson & The Rigamorticians Monster Mash brings me back to the good ol’ days when we used to be able to wear our Halloween costumes to school and this would be playing on a loop throughout the day. It was a graveyard smash!

Thriller by Michael Jackson Cue the choreography that practically everyone knows by heart.

Ghostbusters by Ray Parker Jr. A quintessential Halloween jam we all know and love. Other notable versions of this song are by Fall Out Boy and Pentatonix.

Aha! by Pentatonix Speaking of the Grammy-award winning group, their take on Imogen Heap’s original song leaves you feeling spooked to the core.

Grim Grinning Ghosts – From Haunted Mansion by The Mellomen I had to throw some Disney into the mix. Extra points if you go to Disneyland during Halloween season.

I’m In Love With a Monster by Fifth Harmony This pop anthem about falling in love with the undead will have you questioning your own love life. JK! Props to all 5 girls for going so hard on this song.

The Hallowissa Song by Issa Twaimz Does anyone remember The Llama Song? Issa did it again with The Hallowissa Song, giving us eerie sad witch realness.

Time Warp by Little Nell, Patricia Quinn, and Richard O’Brien Taking us back in time a little bit, Time Warp is a standout song from The Rocky Horror Picture Show soundtrack.  Does anyone else remember when this song was on Just Dance?

I Put a Spell on You by Screamin’ Jay Hawkins *Cackles in witch*

Calling All The Monsters by China Anne McClain 11-year-old me was LIVING when this song came out on Disney Channel. I really thought I was the coolest girl in school when I could recite all the lyrics.

Werewolves Of London by Warren Zevon To cap off our list, we go back to the 70s with this funky hit about, you guessed it, werewolves of London.

If you have any other jingles you like to shake your bones to (I’m sorry, actually not really) during the spooky season, be sure to tweet us @HerCampusSJSU and let us know!
