The Ultimate Prime Video Watchlist for Beginners

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SJSU chapter.

It is easy to be overwhelmed with the wide variety of shows available on Prime Video but here are three shows to get you started as you navigate everything prime has to offer which is free with a Prime Student membership:

  1. Good Omens

Armageddon is right around the corner. The devil is lurking at the corners of the world, hidden in plain sight. And an angel and a demon join forces to save their precious Earth from falling into absolute chaos.

Based on a Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett novel of the same name, “Good Omens” is a spectacular tale of good and evil. They aren’t pitted against each other but instead come together to defeat a common enemy: the Antichrist.

Michael Sheen plays the morally confused angel Aziraphale and David Tenant plays the devious demon Crowley.

The duo embarks on a ludicrous journey to stop the world from ending, going against heaven and hell respectively. Funny and absurd, Good Omens reminds us that the worst times can bring about the most unlikely of heroes.

  1. Alex Rider

A teenager’s uncle dies and is faced with the reality of his real job: espionage. He uses his quick wit to uncover what exactly happened to his uncle.

Alex Rider may seem cheesy at first especially after reading the synopsis but the show is not only filled with surprises but is carried by its phenomenal casting.

Otto Farrant plays the titular Alex Rider and excels with his charming demeanor. Based on the children’s books by Anthony Horowitz, Alex Rider is sure to fascinate audiences of all ages.

Every scene is also backed by an energetic soundtrack featuring artists such as Cage The Elephant, The Vaccines, and Jake Bugg.

Take a ride with Alex as he climbs buildings, infiltrates schools, and discovers the secrets hidden within his family.

  1. The Wilds

You may remember reading “Lord Of The Flies” by William Golding in high school which was about a group of boys surviving on a stranded island.

Well, “The Wilds” is a more updated version of the 1954 novel. A group of girls from all different backgrounds get into a plane crash and all mysteriously end up stranded on an island.

Each episode delves deeper into the background and past of each individual, giving us insight into some of their behaviors on the island.

With an all-female cast, the show focuses on topics that aren’t usually covered by mainstream media such as female friendships, beauty, and sexuality.
