San Jose State University may have a lot of great places to study on campus, but sometimes stepping away from school to grab a coffee is just what you need to help you refocus as assignments start piling up. Read on to discover your 5 new favorite places to study off campus at SJSU this Fall.

PHILZ COFFEE – CAMPBELL, CALIFORNIA

We all know and love Philz for being a campus favorite for grabbing coffee in between classes, and don’t get me wrong, having Philz right across the street from campus is so convenient. But its lack of seating and crowded space can make it a less than adequate option for studying.

The Philz location in Campbell is only a ten minute drive from SJSU and is easily accessible by VTA public transit. Some of its best features include outlets at every table, plenty of space for studying with friends, and an outdoor patio for studying outdoors. Also, lots of other SJSU students study there and the music they play makes the vibe truly unmatched.

Check out this location and find directions on their website.

LOS GATOS COFFEE ROASTING COMPANY

This might seem like a strange choice considering it’s 15-minutes from SJSU, but, if you’re willing to make the drive, I promise it’s worth it! Los Gatos Coffee Roasting Company is a small, quaint shop with a lot of vintage charm located in the historic downtown of Los Gatos, California.

It  is a great place to study because it is quiet, rarely crowded, and it’s never too hard to find a table. Also, the coffee is arguably some of the best in town, and they even have a bakery if you get hungry while studying.

VOYAGER CRAFT COFFEE

Voyager Craft Coffee is a popular coffee shop in the San Jose area and has two locations near SJSU. Both of them have an urban, airy feel, with lots of greenery and natural wood. If you like studying in a bright, spacious area, this could be your new favorite spot!

The closest Voyager to campus is in San Pedro Square, which is only about a five minute drive from SJSU. It has an industrial aesthetic being situated in the middle of downtown San Jose, but also manages to be bright and open at the same time. Plus, there are plenty of seating options both inside and on their outdoor patio.

Another great option is Voyager in Santa Clara, which is only a 10 minute drive from campus and offers a more quaint neighborhood vibe. While it still has the same general look and feel, this location is smaller and cozier than the one in San Pedro. I definitely recommend visiting either spot for your next study sesh.

You can find them here.

ORCHARD VALLEY COFFEE

Orchard Valley Coffee is yet another perfect example of the “small town” coffee shop aesthetic. It is located in downtown Campbell about 10 minutes from campus.

There are plenty of tables inside the shop, and an outdoor seating area where you can enjoy the charming, quiet downtown. Plus, if you visit on a Sunday, you can also walk through the Campbell Farmers Market between studying!

STARBUCKS IN WILLOW GLEN

Last but not least, we can’t forget about the most obvious coffee shop choice, Starbucks. Even though there are about a million locations in San Jose, the Willow Glen Starbucks is my favorite location to study at.

It’s situated in the cutest area of downtown Willow Glen in San Jose, which is only about five minutes away from SJSU.  There is plenty of room to study, as well as a few tables outside. If you already love Starbucks, sometimes sticking to what you know can be extra comforting in the midst of your overwhelming Fall semester.

Find this location at Starbucks.com.

So, next time you’re looking for a new place to study off campus, consider trying one of these options. I promise you won’t be disappointed!
