A Walk on the Child Side: The Super Cool Voices Behind Your Favorite Cartoons

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Simmons chapter.

When I was younger, the line between reality and fiction was pretty blurry. In my mind, all of the cartoon characters were at least somehow real; it never crossed my mind that actual human beings created their voices. But now I know that there are some amazing voice actors providing the sounds of my childhood–and most of them are women! Here’s a list, in no particular order, of some of my favorites.

E.G. Daily

Tommy Pickles from Rugrats, Buttercup from The Powerpuff Girls

Pamela Adlon

Spinelli from Recess and Bobby Hill from King of the Hill

Kath Soucie

Phil and Lil Deville from Rugrats, Betty Deville in Rugrats

Tara Strong

Raven from Teen Titans , Timmy Turner and Poof in The Fairly Odd Parents, Dil Pickle in Rugrats, Bubbles in the Powerpuff Girls, and Harley Quinn in almost all of the recent Batman video games (Tara is LITERALLY everyone, it seems.)

Grey DeLisle

Azula from Avatar: The Last Airbender, Vicky from The Fairly Odd Parents, and Daphne in every single Scooby Doo cartoon since 2001

Cree Summer

Susie Carmichael from Rugrats, Princess Kida from Atlantis: The Lost Empire, and Penny from Inspector Gadget
