An Open Letter to Simmons Freshmen

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Simmons chapter.

We are so excited to have you join our tight-knit community here at Simmons College. You will find that being at a small school like Simmons has its perks and there are plenty of opportunities to find what interests you. Not to mention, you get to be in Boston, so there is always something new and exciting to try!

Orientation Week is going to be your crash course for all things Simmons. You will learn how to be a part of our community, which is all about being respectful to different kinds of people. Orientation is also a great chance to meet people and make friends, so don’t be afraid to put yourself out there! Remember that you’re all new to this, and everyone is just as nervous as you are.

Orientation is designed to be fun and interactive, but it can be totally overwhelming at times. Just remember to take a breather when you need to. There are going to be lots of activities planned, but it’s okay to set aside some time to yourself. Just make sure that you go to all of the meetings with your Orientation Leader!

After your first week, you will come out knowing so much more than you did before, but you’ll still have yet to start classes. Make sure that you are prepared to make this transition as easy as possible. Bring notebooks, your textbooks and any homework assignments that may have been due before your first day.

It’s a lot like high school, only better, and you are usually taking classes that interest you. One advantage to going to Simmons is that the class sizes are small so you get to develop a great relationship with your professors and fellow classmates.

A great thing about Simmons is that professors always have your back. They want you to succeed and learn something valuable from their courses, so stay engaged and ask questions. They can help you with everything from finding an internship or a job to making sure that you are studying the right material.

Your first week at Simmons is going to be exciting and everyone here at Simmons’ chapter of Her Campus is happy that you’re here. To join our wonderful team of writers, event planners, marketers and photographers email us at simmons@hercampus.com! Best of luck and have fun!
