Meet Simmons’ Active Minds chapter

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Simmons chapter.

I recently had the privilege of speaking with the president of Active Minds, Emma Larkin, and the vice president, Jenna Squasoni.

Active Minds at Simmons is a club supporting mental health education and awareness for all Simmons students. Meetings are themed, ranging from self-care during the pandemic to an eating disorder awareness night. These meetings are super casual, and sometimes include check ins, games (with prize money), and other activities.

After Emma expressed interest in starting the club earlier last year, Jenna knew she wanted to help.

“I have been impacted by mental health, so mental health awareness is something that is super important to me. My older brother goes to a school with an Active Minds chapter so I knew I wanted to be a part of one. I love how it connects schools through mental health.”

The club is always looking to recruit new members. According to Emma, “if you want to become a member, reach out on social media or just show up! We will be happy to see new faces!”

Meeting attendance is not mandatory, they both added. Just being engaged in the club in so many other ways is enough.

If you are interested in joining a fun and loving group of students who are passionate about mental health, Active Minds is the club for you!

Jada is a biology major in the class of 2023 at Simmons University in Boston, MA. You might find her in the city hanging out with friends, volunteering at BMC, or in a coffee shop studying.
