The week everyone looks forward to during their college years is almost here– spring break! With it, we exchange the dining hall and all night study sessions for home cooked meals and nights with friends. In this semester’s survival kit we received some awesome products that we recommend you try to start your break off right.

  1. Keep away those sunburns with Alba Botanica’s Hawiian Sunscreen

The first product I tested was the Alba Botanica® Hawaiian Green Tea Sunscreen, SPF 45. For those lucky enough to be traveling somewhere sunny and warm, this product is a must! Not only is it water resistant (for 80 minutes) but it is also soft and applies smoothly. Another great aspect? It is non-greasy. A box that has to be checked if you ask me. Additionally, I love all forms of green tea, from matcha to the leaves themselves; therefore, this immediately caught my attention. We all know we should be wearing sunscreen (who doesn’t want healthy looking skin when they’re 90?) But we all are also guilty of not wearing it. Ethically, Alba Botanica® gets an A+.  Alba Botanica® is known for their botanically-based, 100% vegetarian personal care products. One of my personal favorite facts is that this sunscreen is also coral reef safe and biodegradable. With this product not only do you protect your beautiful and glowing skin, but you also protect the ocean as well. Basically, Alba Botanica® Green Tea Sunscreen meets all the criteria to be at the top of your packing list this break.

2.  Make your eyes pop with Revlon Almay Eyeshadow

The next item on any girl’s packing list? Makeup! Don’t get me wrong, nobody needs makeup, we are all beautiful without it. However, I know for myself, makeup boosts my confidence when done right and more importantly, I find it fun to mix and match different eyeshadows and see what looks good! The Almay Shadow Squad™ Eyeshadow gives you a pack with one shade, four different finishes: satin, matte, metallic and glitter. The options are perfect to transform a neutral daytime look to a trendy, vibrant nighttime statement. Bonus for those of you like me with sensitive skin– the product is hypoallergenic. I used the color, Never Settle, to give me a calm, day look. Then, at night, I used ambition to make a bolder statement. I follow the rule of applying lighter colors on the inside of my eyes and then get darker as I progress outwards. The Almay Shadow Squad™ Eyeshadow will leave you and your squad feeling straight off the runway.

3.Get that Hollywood glam look with Bed head’s Superstar Queen for a Day Spray Thickening Spray

This next item comes from the well-known brand, Bed Head. Since I was little, I have always loved the bold colored and fun shaped bottles that the products come in. In the survival kit there were two items from Bed head: Superstar Queen for a Day Spray Thickening Spray and the Get Twisted Anti-Frizz Finishing spray. The first one I am going to review is the thickening spray. I personally have thick hair already, so I compared my reviews with my friends who have fine strands. Both of us concluded the same thing: this spray is wonderful at adding extra volume while also supporting already thick hair. As a little girl, my mom would use her hairspray and I would cover my nose. With Bed Head’s thickening spray this is not necessary. There is no bad odor to worry about. This spray is a must when it comes to long-lasting volume and texture. Perfect for those spontaneous, unexpected spring break plans.

4. Tame your mane with Bed Head’s Anti-Frizz Finishing Spray

If there’s one thing I have a weakness for, it’s hair products. I am constantly trying new brands to find what works best. Bed Head’s other product–Get Twisted Anti-Frizz Finishing Spray– came in the survival kit and it definitely is on my “what works” list. My hair is a mix of curly and wavy. This product helped to maintain my hair’s natural style while also fighting the annoying frizz. New England weather is unpredictable, but with this lightweight product, my style stays in place. No matter where you are this break, Get Twisted Anti-Frizz Finishing Spray from Bed Head will keep your beautiful mane, tamed.

5. Spice things up with Va-Va-Plump Shiny Liquid Lipstick

My favorite item in the survival kit is the Va-Va-Plump Shiny Liquid Lipstick in Wine Me. Unfortunately, I tend to pick and/or bite my already chapped lips so I have to be picky about what I put on them otherwise, I am left with cracked lips that are extra colorful, hence, noticeable. With this liquid lipstick from Buxom, I was incredibly happy to find that it is a bold color that goes on smoothly and dries beautifully. There are 20 different shades, and if I could, all of the other 19 would be in my mailbox already. Seriously, this lipstick is my new obsession. It also lasted through a whole night out in Boston, which is quite impressive. Buxom believes that bold lips lead to a big, bold, sexy life, and I couldn’t agree more. Best part? Buxom cosmetics is offering students 20% off your entire purchase at www.buxomcosmetics.com from 2/15-3/31 when you use the code HERCAMPUS at checkout! There currently may or may not be four more shades in my checkout cart (there is).

6.  Fix your broken heels with Krazy Glue!

You know how in romantic movies someone always breaks their heel? This would be easily solved if they had Krazy Glue All-Purpose Singles in their clutch. I was skeptical at first, but while on the way out of my friend’s room, she used this glue to reattach her boot (see picture) and it worked! I was amazed and impressed. I learned an important lesson that night– your crazy to not carry Krazy Glue. It is also so small and convenient that there really is no excuse. Spring break can have its challenges, don’t let a broken shoe be one of them. It also Bonds to wood, metal, plastics, glass, vinyl & ceramics. Moral of the story: it is a lifesaver.

7. Get that ” I went somewhere warm” tan without having to travel!

I’m heading home for spring break. Which means, I won’t be able to get naturally tan. Instead, I can use the last item from the survival kits: L’Oréal Paris Sublime Bronze Self-Tanning Towelettes. They are easy to apply and provide a streak-free, sun-free tan that looks like I went on a nice vacation! Fake it to make it is my motto.

Whether you are packing your bathing suits or winter jacket, I recommend adding all these items to your next to-do list. Recommit to yourself this spring break by treating your body the way it should be treated– with love and respect. Hopefully, these products will be just the beginning of glowing on the inside and out.
