Living with dietary restrictions can be challenging, especially on a college student’s budget! If you have Celiac disease or gluten-intolerance, avoiding gluten is a must. As someone who has been embracing the gluten-free lifestyle for almost five years now, I am always on the hunt for good eats! Here is a list of my favorite places to grab a bite in the city!

1. Wahlburgers

Most of their burgers can be made gluten-free! Wahlburgers will simply swap out a regular bun for a gluten-free one. Even their fries are safe to eat, as they are made in a separate fryer! My favorite is the “original melt” on gluten-free bread.

2. Honeygrow

This modern eatery is located just steps away from Simmons near Fenway Park. Their menu is super-customizable with create your own stir-frys and “honeybar” fruit bowls. All of their gluten-free items are clearly labeled too! My go-to is a “honeybar” bowl with berries and homemade whipped cream!

3. Jennifer Lee’s Gourmet Bakery at the Boston Public Market

The bakery is a dream for anyone with food allergies! Everything on the menu is gluten-free, as well as allergy friendly and vegan. She has a wide variety of items including: breads, sweet treats, and even mac n’ cheese! I love the pumpkin and apple cider donuts. They are so yummy on a fall day!

4. Trader Joe’s

While Trader Joe’s isn’t a sit down eatery, it’s still a place I cannot live without. I try to do all my grocery shopping here, as the gluten-free options are limitless. Not only do they carry fresh fruits and veggies (which are naturally gluten-free), but they also have unique gluten-free products like tomato soup crackers. I bought this bread recently and cannot wait to try it out!

5. Legal Sea Foods

Legal Sea Foods is a great restaurant if you don’t want to miss out on traditional seafood meals. However, it is on the pricier end. A large majority of the menu (at the Long Wharf location) can be prepared without gluten. These selections are indicated with a wheat symbol. The buffalo popcorn shrimp is a great appetizer!

6. Hard Rock Cafe

If you’re willing to spend some extra on dinner, this is a place you don’t want to miss! Hard Rock has their own gluten-free menu, just ask a hostess or waiter. From fresh salads to sandwiches and entrees there is something for everyone. Both the “honey mustard grilled chicken sandwich” and the “hickory smoked pulled pork sandwich” are my lunchtime favorites!

Hi! I'm a third-year biochemistry major here at Simmons, with dreams of becoming the next Meredith Grey! When I'm not studying, I enjoy playing field hockey, hanging out with friends, and exploring the city!
