It’s February and everyone’s been bumping to their top favorite tunes lately. Here are the songs I just can’t get out of my head!

1- Ottoman by Vampire Weekend

Maybe it is because Vampire Weekend won a Grammy back in January, or maybe it is because I saw them in September 2019. Maybe it is because I named my piano Ezra after their frontman. Whatever it may be, I will always have a soft-spot for this song. I love the higher vocal range and the energy this song carries. Also, the lyrics of “begging you to sit for a portrait on the wall to hang in the dark of some parliamentary hall” is one of my favorites.

2- Touch of Grey by The Grateful Dead

This song always will remind me of my dad. I also love how long it is and all the different influences that come into play with this song. It has been one of my favorites since I first heard it. Maybe it’s the emphasis on “I will get by, I will survive” to hear while stressing about an assignment.

3- Dance Again by Selena Gomez

Besides the fact that Selena Gomez’s new album “Rare” is some of her first work, I can’t help but dance to this song. It’s got a great beat, and really makes you want to dance again whenever I hear it.

4- Fly By Night by Rush

I started listening to Rush after Neil Peart passed away. Although I was definitely not in the generation that grew up with Rush, I have so much respect for the band. Neil Peart also had a drum kit that was 360 degrees and there is truly nothing cooler than that.

5- Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard by Paul Simon

A little bit different but this song actually reminds me of my mom! This song was played at my summer job everyday and it’s so upbeat and summery. Also, Paul Simon was half of Simon and Garfunkel and there’s truly nothing more classic than “Mrs. Robinson”.

6- Return to the Moon by EL VY

Besides being a big fan of The National, I really love this song. It’s a little different than anything The National have done, but whenever I practice piano, I always seem to go back to this song. Matt Berninger is a great vocalist who really shows he can sing more than the slow songs of “Bloodbuzz Ohio” and “Fake Empire”.

7- Love Don’t Die by The Fray

This song reminds me of someone very close to me. He’d always play this song for me and tried his hardest to learn this song despite not being the most musically talented. It brings a smile to my face whenever I hear this song.

8- Help is Round the Corner by Coldplay

Literally my favorite band of all time is Coldplay. This song is so beautiful with its acoustics and vocals. The song is a hidden gem on their Yellow EP.

9- SICKO MODE by Travis Scott

This song is so bad it’s good. The song is so indecisive on which beat it wants to follow, so it chooses three different beats to follow. Like a light, aye.

10- The Suburbs by Arcade Fire

Besides “The Suburbs” being literally the best Arcade Fire album to date, this song just takes the cake. It is brilliant and amazing in so many different ways. It’s happy sound with dark lyrics contrast the song so well. A very beautiful sound that compliments a perfect album.
