Do you ever find yourself stuck in a music rut listening to the same thing over and over again for months at a time? That used to be how I listened to music, and I only found new songs and artists to listen to through friends suggestions. While that’s still one of my favorite ways to find new music, the game has changed with Spotify’s feature of New Music Friday. Every Friday, Spotify refreshes this page on their platform and adds all new music to come out both by known artists and those who are somewhat new!
I only ever started paying attention to New Music Friday at the beginning of this year, when one of the goals I made for myself was to find new music and listen to new things. Sometimes I can find it overwhelming to constantly scroll through different music platforms and playlists looking for new music that I haven’t heard before. There’s so much content out there it’s hard to start in one place! Spotify has made it easy to search new music, find new playlists as well as give recommendations as to what you should listen to next! For one, when you finish listening to all the songs on your created playlist you then are sent to the playlist radio where you hear songs related to those you had on your original playlist. They also create daily mixes that bring together all the types of music you usually listen to, while adding in some new songs here and there.
New Music Friday is easily one of their best ideas and most popular “playlists”. It’s updated every Friday with the music that had come out within that week, or even on that day, by all types of artists that you might not have even heard of before! It’s such a simple way to shuffle the songs that came out that week and listen through them until you find those hidden gems that you really love! That being said you won’t love every song, I skip some when I listen, but it’s a great way to not only have a new song but also artists that you might be able to go and listen to more of their music! Spotify also has other things such as the top 100 and top 50 which can also be a fun way to see what people are mainly listening to in the States and in other countries! There are plenty of ways to find new music through this platform, which makes it so easy to explore and find new things!
