Top 5 Things to do in the Fall in the Capital Region

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Siena chapter.

New York’s Capital Region is an absolute gem this time of year, and not just because of all the beautiful fall leaves! The Albany area offers many fun and seasonal festivities to do under the autumn leaves. Looking for something to do over the long weekend, on a day off, or with friends on a cool fall day? Read on to find out about all of the great seasonal and festive things there are to do around Siena!

1) Liberty Ridge Farm

Located in Schaghticoke, a brief 35 minute drive from Loudonville, Liberty Ridge Farm offers the perfect destination on that cool fall day. Get lost in the 11-acre corn maze with your friends, slide down an 80 foot tunnel, race your friends in the giant gerbil wheels, or simply take a ride in the trolley. The trolley takes you for a lovely ride along the banks of the Hoosic River Valley and stops at the pumpkin patch so you can pick the perfect pumpkin to decorate your dorm room! Liberty Ridge offers a wide variety of autumn festivities to do on those cool days.

2) Malta Drive-In Theatre

Who said Drive-Ins were just for the summer? This great movie experience is a short 25-minute drive to Malta, and for just $9 per person you can catch the fall’s best flicks. The fall air makes for cozy blankets, cuddles, maybe some pumpkin-flavored beverages, and let’s be real, does it get much better than that?

3) Great Escape Fright Fest

Get your adrenaline and goosebumps fix at the Six Flags: Great Escape Theme Park in Lake George, less than an hour drive away. Experience the amusement park by day, and then stay for Fright by Night. The park becomes divided into three different scare zones, each providing a good amount of chills! Experience Malice in Wonderland, The Awakening, and The Comet Toxic Safari to name a few of the horrifying attractions. Heading up to Fright Fest is a great way to spend a chilly autumn evening with friends—but your chills won’t just be coming from the cold air.

4) Double M Haunted Hayride

The area’s premier haunted hayride is a quick 20-minute drive from Siena in Ballston Spa.  Double M Haunted Hayride has been giving the Albany area its fair share of scares for almost 25 years. Call and make a reservation to be horrified on the haunted hayride, and if you make it that far, the stockyard, clown carnevil, and darkwoods academy await you. If you are ready for the scare of your life, grab some friends…maybe an extra pair of pants…and get ready for the most haunted hayride you will ever experience.

5) Bowman Orchards

Bowman Orchards is the place to go if you are looking to go apple picking on a cool autumn day with friends. Located in Rexford, Bowman Orchards is only 20-minutes from Siena. The orchard sprawls over ninety-eight beautiful acres and features over 46 varieties of apples, as well as a multitude of berries that you can pick yourself. Don’t forget to check out the farm animals either! Bowman Orchards features pigs, sheep, goats, horses, and alpacas. Yes, alpacas.
