The Sodexo Switch

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Siena chapter.

By now you’re probably already aware that Sodexo has lost their contract with Siena, and if you’re not, what rock have you been hiding under? After more than thirty years, Siena is saying so long to Sodexo.  Starting in June, Sodexo will be departing and AVI Foodsystems, Inc. will be taking over all of the dining services on campus. AVI is the largest independently owned/operated “food and hospitality provider” in America, serving clients including but not limited to businesses, educational institutions, and healthcare facilities in forty-four states and Canada. It was founded over fifty years ago and has grown into the massive, respected company that it is today thanks to its family values, traditions, and dedication to integrity and personal relationships between team members and customers.

AVI is also dedicated to preparing 100% of their meals from scratch, using no frozen foods and only fresh ingredients. They utilize fair trade and sustainable products and practices, as well locally grown and produced products wherever possible. Specific to Siena, AVI is going to be extending the hours of operation for Saga, Massry, and Casey’s. Saga is also expecting an updated layout, featuring new gelato, grill, carving, and bakery stations! Additionally, plans are in place for the development of a wellness program and internships to be made available for students, both on campus and with corporate.

Even with all of these awesome things to come, you may be worried about the current dining employees that we all know and love. Don’t! AVI is offering re-interviews to existing Siena Sodexo employees, so we can look forward to seeing many of them again next year!

The Executive VP of the company, Chris Nelson, was quoted saying that it was important for AVI to become a part of the campus community, serving guests with a family approach. “We are honored to partner with Siena and look forward to building a long-term relationship that will enhance the student and faculty experience.” On the home page of their website, AVI welcomes Siena to their family, and we’d like to turn it around and welcome them to ours as well!
