If you’re like me, you’ve been binge-watching TV shows and movies on Netflix to pass the quarantine. Now that the semester is almost over, everyone is going to have more free time. Especially because businesses won’t be opening until (hopefully) the end of May, so unfortunately most people are currently unemployed. However, on the bright side that means more time to relax, pick up hobbies, and watch movies. I have some movie recommendations on Netflix for you to watch, including recently released and older classic films.

The first movie on my list is Fractured, which was released in 2019 and is a psychological thriller that keeps you guessing from the beginning. The movie is about a father who is convinced to a hospital for hiding something after his wife and injured daughter mysteriously disappear from the emergency room. If you are a fan of horror movies and plot twists, this is the movie for you. It is both chilling and shocking, with some gorey scenes mixed in. My friends and I watched this more than a month ago and we were stunned by the ending. To this day we still talk about how messed up parts of this movie were, so it left quite a lasting impression. Fractured is an hour and forty minutes and was able to keep our attention from the first to final scene.

The second movie on my list is much older and is considered a classic. Raiders of the Lost Ark, which was released in 1981 and did really well. Three more movies were added to the Indiana Jones series, with a fifth movie set to be released in 2022. It was so popular that it received a rating of 95 percent on Rotten Tomatoes and a rating of 96 percent from the audience score. This movie was directed by the infamous Steven Spielberg, and is an amazing action-adventure film which viewers of all ages will appreciate. It is an epic tale following an archeologist, known as Indiana Jones, on his adventure to obtain a religious relic which is central to the Nazis for their plans of world domination. The story is filled with peril and adventure that will keep you entertained and captivated for every second. I remember watching this as a kid with my family and loving it, and still enjoying it just as much now that I am an adult. After you watch Raiders of the Lost Ark, make sure to watch Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull so you can complete the series.

The third movie I recommend came out fairly recently, in 2018. Spider-Man: Into the Spider Verse is an animation/action film which follows teenage Miles Morales who transforms into Spider-Man after being bitten by a radioactive spider. He meets Peter Parker and comes to the realization that there are others who share his abilities, even in various universes. I will watch any movie associated with Marvel, so even though I am not the biggest fan of animated films, I gave this one a try. I loved this movie and other viewers did too because it was rated a 97 percent on Rotten Tomatoes and a 93 percent from the audience score. Spider-Man: Into the Spider Verse will capture your interest even if you are not a fan of superheros, as demonstrated by my mom who adored the storyline of the movie. She also liked the soundtrack, which features famous artists such as Post Malone and Swae Lee, who sing the popular song “Sunflower” from the movie.
