On Sunday, October 29, 2017 the contestants of Miss Perú 2018 took the stage to compete for a chance in the Miss Universe contest. Using this year’s pageant theme, The Strength Behind Beauty, the women changed things up from the usual focus on physical beauty and high fashion. In the past these women were asked to introduce themselves by stating their name and body measurements; this year the contestants used their platform to speak out about violence against women. 23 contestants shared their name, where they were from and a statistic of violence against women. These women remind us that violence against women is a reality all over the world, but when we stand together our voices will be heard.
