Little things You can do for Your Valentine Every Day, Not Just Valentine’s Day

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Siena chapter.

Depending on who you are, Valentine’s Day is very fun and exciting, or it can be nerve-wracking and sad for the singles out there (I’ve been there, I know your pain). Regardless, here are a few things you can do for your Valentine (whether it be a boyfriend, girlfriend, or galentine) or for someone who matters to you, every day of the year.

And yes, they are simple and easy to do especially on a college campus. I know, as a college student, we have limited resources sometimes.

Buy some flowers (or a flower)

Not everything has to be a grand gesture to show your love. Have a few dollars to spend? Go out a buy your valentine a bouquet of flowers or even one! It’s the thought that counts.

Are you a creative person? Even better, you could make a paper flower. Get artsy, get crafty. Your valentine will love the DIY!

go out to dinner at the dining hall

As simple (and maybe a little lame) sounding as this is, going out to the dining hall for dinner could be fun. This is great for people who don’t have transportation to get off campus. MAKE A SPECTACLE OUT OF IT! That’s what makes it even more enjoyable. Dress fancy or have a fun theme for the dress code. Pretend it’s a fancy dinner. Enjoy the intimacy of a dinner for two but take advantage of the light-hearted setting of the dining hall.

This works for friends too. Go out and enjoy dinner at the dining hall with your gals and your pals. Even with your friends, you can dress up a little. Exchange little gifts. These could be little notes or DIYs. Get creative!

go off campus for dinner

If you have a way to get there, this could be a great way to make Valentine’s Day different than the others. Grab your Valentine, Galentine, or Palentine and go out to dinner. It can be as fancy or as casual as you please, from fast food, or diner, to steak house! Whichever you two decide, you can enjoy each other’s company and forget about schoolwork over dinner.

make a card

If you’re an artsy person. you will like this one. Whip out your markers and colored pencil and draw them a pretty picture to go with a fun message. Take your time because they may keep it for a very long time!

put together a vday bucket

This one is my personal favorite. And I always hear such positive things about this one too! Now, they do NOT have to have BIG EXPENSIVE things in them. It can be as little and simple as some candies, fun little knick-knacks you find in the store, and a handwritten note with fun wrapping. This one is great because it can be very extravagant if you want it to be. There are lots of ways to do this one right!

write a love letter

Do NOT think this has to be big and extravagant either like the ones out of the movie. It does not. It can be simple and for that reason, this also can be for anyone! It can be as simple as a few sentences or paragraphs and paragraphs. It can be reasons you like them or things you enjoy about your friendship. Whatever it is, you surely will give your Valentine a smile! :)

Make a cute little scrapbook

Yes, this one is seen all over. But still, it is very cute and can be easy to do and not expensive at all. Print some cute photos, write some sweet notes, and insert some fun paper and stickers as well as anything you can tap or glue to sketchbook paper. This will create a fun DIY project your Valentine can keep and look through for a long time!

Have a “Snow Date”

If your campus has snow, this could be your “movie moment.” Go outside with your Valentine and enjoy the outdoors. Bundle up and grab sleds if you have a hilly campus. This can work without a hilly campus too. Startup a snowball fight with each other and your friends. If you want to spend time with just one another, you could always go build a snowman together or make snow angels in the quad. Obviously, you guys will be cold, so this will be a great excuse to cuddle up with each other and enjoy a warm winter beverage!

put together a scavenger hunt

This might require a little bit of thinking, but it is surely worth it! Think about all the inside jokes and special things between you and your Valentine. This could be a special place or object. Be sure to hide these objects or hint at these places. Require your Valentine to get photos or acquire these objects. See if they’re up to the task! Surprise them at the end with a fun prize! Maybe it’s a fun date.

Have a movie night

Do you like to stay in? This one is certainly an option to consider! Pop some popcorn, grab some drinks, and take your favorite candies to sit and watch your favorite Rom-Com with your favorite person. It’s a perfect time to cuddle up and warm up on this cold wintery day.

I hope this inspires you to celebrate VDay regardless of your relationship status and celebrate the love in the air. Please have a great day and get creative. Valentines is a fun day if you let it be! Love you all! <3
