Katey Kohler ’18 – Her Campus Siena Staff Member

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Siena chapter.

Ever wonder who the wonderful ladies are behind the Her Campus Siena articles? This semester you’ll find out! Check back in every now and then for our profiles of each member of the amazing Her Campus Siena team.

Name: Katey Kohler

Year: 2018 / Senior

Major: Psychology

Hometown: Amsterdam, NY

HC Siena: Why did you choose your major?

KK: I took a high school level course and it really interested me. I love helping people any way I can! I also plan to become a psychiatrist and work with military cases of PTSD. My goal is to help those people conquer it so they can live normal lives after they’re done with their tours.

HC Siena: Why did you want to get involved with Her Campus Siena?

KK: I really enjoy writing; it actually helps with my stress and, when I’m bored, I’ll write songs, poems or short stories. It’s more of a hobby than anything else.

HC Siena: What is your favorite part of working with Her Campus?

KK: Definitely the environment! Everyone is different and has different interests or aspirations in life, yet we can all get along and tend to share many interests as well. Everyone is so nice.

HC Siena: Out of all the articles you have written, which one is your favorite and why?

KK: “To the Sad Girl in the Mirror” because body image problems are a huge issue among the youth of today and something that seems to only be addressed every so often. I actually got the inspiration to write this article from watching my mother go through body issues and constantly feel judged by everyone for what she looks like.

HC Siena: What is something that makes you happy?

KK: Summer! The constant smell of bonfires, bug spray, tanning lotion and perfumes. The feeling of the sun beating on my skin, being poolside or at the beach constantly, finding myself getting lost in the mountains, being awed by the views and seeking adventure within them, and being surrounded by the people crazy enough to stick by my side through it all.

HC Siena: What would your memoir be called and why?

KK: “Gingy: The Girl Who Can Find Beauty in Anyone or Anything.”

HC Siena: If you were stranded on an island, what three things would you bring?

KK: Music, food, and my dog.

HC Siena: If you could choose a mentor, who would it be?

KK: On a personal level, it would be any of the women in my family. They’re all caring and have taught me that being myself is the best way to be and that I shouldn’t take crap from anyone. On a TV level, it’d be the Gilmore Girls. They live in two worlds, trying to conquer them both, and yet still hold their ground. Even when they lose their true selves, they jump right back up like real bosses and reclaim their statuses. A celebrity mentor would be Miley Cyrus. I never stopped admiring her because she cares so much for people and animals and she went out and experimented with herself to find her true happiness. Honestly, she’s truly admirable.

HC Siena: Why do you think everyone should read Her Campus Siena?

KK: No matter what kind of person you are, there is definitely an article there that is relatable to you and possibly you and your best friend. Each article is unique.
