I Went to Las Vegas and Didn’t Gamble – Here’s What I Did Instead

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Siena chapter.

Oh yes, the infamous Las Vegas, which is typically known for its glamorous casinos, shows, and of course, having fun with friends. While on vacation, here are some other activities to do when drinking and gambling just don’t sound fun. Here are some fun activities I did while in Las Vegas.

1. Zip Lining Fremont Street

If you’re seeking an adrenaline pumping activity, then I would highly recommend zip-lining Fremont Street! Zip-lining Fremont Street gave me such an adrenaline rush that I have never felt before. Fremont Street is absolutely beautiful at night with all the people and the lights illuminating the streets from the many lights that cover the street. In the photo below, my family and I all zip-lined from the tower that is shown.

2. Seeing a Show of Any Kind

If you have the desire to see an iconic show while in Las Vegas, then seeing a Cirque du Soleil show is something you need to do! While I was on vacation I saw a Beatles-themed Cirque du Soleil show. It was incredible to see the dancers and performers create choreography based on Beatles music. Plus, seeing a Cirque du Soleil show had always been on my bucket list, and where would be a better place to see a show than Las Vegas!?!

3. Hiking the Grand Canyon

Another amazing adventure that is worth doing is traveling the five hours from Las Vegas to see the Grand Canyon. It’s an amazing national park that was amazing to walk around and take pictures at the Grand Canyon. During summer months (and if you dare, during the winter), there are many trails around the Grand Canyon that give you surreal views of this iconic national park.

4. Red Rock Canyon

Red Rock Canyon is a 13-mile driving tour that you can take. This tour includes numerous stops to walk around, go for a little hike, and take some amazing photos of the vibrant red rocks in Nevada. This site is about 30 minutes from Las Vegas, so it would make an amazing day trip! Also, you never know who you’re going to meet at Red Rocks. Pictured in the photo below was a cute dog I met while hiking!

There are so many things to do walking around on the Las Vegas Boulevard. Plus, the people watching is so hilarious. You never know the different people you would have an interaction with. Here are some of the photos I took while walking and driving down this infamous street.
