How To Prepare For Siena Winters

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Siena chapter.

Believe it or not, winter and cold temperatures are around the corner. Winter comes as no surprise and many of us are not ready for its arrival. If you are prepared for the hazards of winter, you will be more likely to stay safe and healthy when temperatures start to fall. Here are some ways to prepare for the cold weather!

1. Find a good chapstick

Many people get dry, chapped lips during the winter. It can be annoying and frustrating, but a little extra attention can help you avoid chapped lips during the winter. The key to preventing lip chapping is applying protective moisturizer. Find a good chapstick for the cold months to prevent chapstick. One of my personal favorite is EOS chapstick.

2. Prepare your car

Prepare a winter emergency kit to keep in your car for emergencies. Some items that can be included in the kit are blankets, flashlight, first aid kit, food and water. Another tip is to make sure that your gas tank does not get too low. If it gets too low, the gas line can freeze.

3. Dress for the weather

It is important to dress warm for the cold weather. Dress in layers and if you get too warm, you can take off a layer. It is better to be overdressed than underdressed.

4. Consider trying a new sport

There are a lot of winter activities such as skiing and snowboarding. There are many skiing and snowboarding locations near the Albany area. Siena even offers discount packages to some ski and snowboarding resorts.

5. Wear proper footwear

Having the proper footwear is essential when it starts to snow. No one wants to trudge through the snow with soaking wet boots. If you are planning on ordering new boots, order them soon so that they are not put on backorder for months. Fuzzy socks are perfect for boots.
